This is So Messed Up

I'm rarely without something to say, but I just can't think of what it might be after reading this story. There are things about this that are very wrong on many levels here, the least of which is parents allowing tiny children to eat their toys.

It's weird Mike but kids chew on toys, even older kids. My kids have this absolutely insane habit of chewing paper, such as chunks of a magazine page, like gum. I can't tell you how many times I've said "get that (fill in the blank) out of your mouth" in the last 13years. The "blank" is usually a barrette, bracelet, necklace with the chain still around their neck, bottle cap, you name it.

Now actually ingesting said item is another story. Youngest child did swallow a lovely nickel when she was two.

I guess I can understand that a 2 year old or a 19 month old would be putting this toy in their mouth, but one of the victims is 10! What toy for a toddler is a) appropriate to a 10 year old, and b) why would the 10 year old eat it? Retard. (Oops. DD. I think I just answered my own question. Or at least I hope I did.)

Okay. So, maybe I have unusually high expectations that parents be perfect and actually supervise their small children around toys that can be swallowed. (I'm with Mindy that the 10 year old can fend for himself on this one or allow natural selection to happen.) I get that accidents happen, so probably need to lighten up here. However, in this country we not only litigate based on lack of parental supervision, we legislate to account for all kinds of stupidity. That makes me cranky.
Like I said though, the parenting here is the least of this messed up story. When will people start thinking twice about buying cheap crap from China? If we did, I realize WalMart would go under and Mindy and I would have nowhere to go when we're in Decorah. Sad.
